Nonada
_a neologism is a newly created word or expression, altered or adapted to represent new concepts, ideas or phenomena. João Guimarães Rosa was a genius in this art. When I read Grande Sertão: Veredas I was struck by these terms that I had never seen or read before. Some examples:
_nonada: a term that mixes “non” and “nada” to designate something unimportant.
_enxadachim: designates a field worker who fights for survival. The word brings together “hoe” and “swordsman”.
_circumstance: refers to “surrounding sadness”.
_ensimesmudo: mixture of the words ensimesmado and mute, used to describe someone who is closed off.
