Organismos unicelulares podem sentir, isto é, perceber pelos sentidos, e reagir. Muito do que fazem só pode ser considerado um "comportamento" num sentido muito amplo; mas eles são capazes de controlar o modo que se movimentam e as substâncias químicas que produzem em resposta àquilo que detectam estar acontecendo à sua volta.

Unicellular organisms can feel and perceive through the senses, and react.
